South Wing is a great family holiday home - in fact it's our family holiday home! We purchased this beautiful house in 2008 to enable our family, including three young kids and family dog, to spend holiday time close to relatives without having to be, er, 'too close'!
We enjoy making the house available for other families to discover this wonderful part of the UK and have been delighted to welcome more than 600 groups and 7000 guests, many of whom come back year after year. Much of the feedback we get is about how much the kids enjoy playing in this huge, atmospheric house where their imaginations can run wild. They also love exploring the private gardens and woods, building camps and racing around the enormous lawns.
Our own kids had their first taste of independence when they visited the village on their own, running errands to and from the lovely local shops or fishing their parents out of the nearby pubs...times change and it's normally the other way round now!
There are plenty of indoor and outdoor games and toys and piles of books, puzzles and magazines to keep everyone occupied. If you've forgotten wellies, fishing nets, balls and even wetsuits, you may be lucky find the right size to borrow.

We welcome well behaved dogs and for many years bought our own, not so well behaved border collie whenever we stayed at South Wing. She loved chasing the kids around the gardens, barking at the golfers on the adjacent golf course and laughing off the insults that came the other way..
Mainly though she loved being on the nearby beach at Hunmanby Gap. It's just a five minute drive and the perfect spot for family walks, exercising the hound and working up an appetite before heading back to the house for a slap up meal (There are also two nice pubs within two minutes walk of the house so you can nip in for a quick one on the way back - and both are dog friendly)
We ask guests to keep dogs downstairs and off the furniture if possible. And please take a few minutes to check for any 'deposits' in the garden before you leave:-)
